The first day of the holiday.
Arrived at the hotel, unpacked, carried the kit across the road and went
sailing. Nice! (Well, it should have been...).
In fact the bay at Essouira turned out to be a gusty nightmare, as so many
hyped holiday destinations turn out to be. The wind was completely on-off,
so I was slogging for 3/4 of the time and fully powered the rest. Very
tiring, and I didn't want to wear myself out for the rest of the trip, so
kept it to a couple of hours.
Advice (correct as it turns out) was to head way downwind where the breeze
is cleaner, but having not fully surveyed the bay i didn't really want to
in such horrible wind for worry of a long walk home. The correct action is
to take the better wind and walk if necessary! (it's not as far as it
looks).
Other point to note was that it was really a little too cold for my summer
3/2 suit. Pretty shivery on the beach. Winter suit applied for the rest of
the holiday!
